Frequently asked questions
What is the formula used by this calculator?
The formula is d = v × t, where d is distance, v is speed, and t is time. For example, travelling at 60 km/h for 2.5 hours gives d = 60 × 2.5 = 150 km. The formula can be rearranged as t = d ÷ v (time = distance ÷ speed) or v = d ÷ t (speed = distance ÷ time).
Why must time be entered in hours?
Because road speeds are expressed per hour (km/h or mph), multiplying by hours cancels the unit correctly: km/h × h = km. If you have minutes, divide by 60 first — for example, 90 minutes = 1.5 hours.
Can I use this calculator for running or cycling?
Yes. Enter your average pace converted to a speed (e.g. 10 km/h) and your planned duration (e.g. 0.5 h for 30 minutes). The result — 5 km — tells you the distance you will cover. The metric/imperial toggle lets you work in miles if you prefer.
