Frequently asked questions
What formula does this calculator use?
It uses the average-acceleration definition: a = (v − v₀) ÷ t, where v₀ is the initial speed, v is the final speed, and t is the elapsed time in seconds. For example, accelerating from 0 to 100 m/s in 10 s gives a = (100 − 0) ÷ 10 = 10 m/s².
What does the g-force figure mean?
g-force is the acceleration expressed as a multiple of standard gravity (g ≈ 9.807 m/s²). An acceleration of 10 m/s² corresponds to roughly 1.02 g. Fighter pilots routinely endure 9 g; everyday car braking is around 0.8 g.
Why does the result show “—” when I enter 0 for time?
Division by zero is mathematically undefined, so the calculator returns no result rather than an infinite or misleading value. Increase the elapsed time to a positive number to get a meaningful acceleration.
