Margin vs markup — what is the difference?
Margin is profit as a percent of revenue (profit ÷ price). Markup is profit as a percent of cost (profit ÷ cost). A 50% markup is only a 33% margin.

Margin is profit ÷ revenue, so it is undefined when revenue is zero.
