Frequently asked questions
What is the feed rate formula?
Table feed Vf = N × fz × z, where N is rpm, fz is feed per tooth (mm), and z the number of teeth. 1000 rpm × 0.1 mm × 4 teeth = 400 mm/min.
What if the chip load is too high or too low?
Too high breaks the tool or damages the part; too low causes rubbing, heat, accelerated wear, and work-hardening.
Where do I find the feed per tooth?
It is published in the cutting-tool maker’s data sheet by material group and tool diameter, and stored in CAM tool libraries.
