Frequently asked questions
How many bricks are needed per square metre?
It depends on brick size and joint thickness. A UK standard brick (215 × 65 mm face) with a 10 mm joint covers about 0.0169 m², giving roughly 60 bricks per m². A Modular US brick gives about 67 per m², and a Jumbo about 33 per m².
Why should I add a waste percentage?
Bricks are cut at corners, openings, and edges, and some break during delivery or laying. Adding 5–10% covers these losses. For complex designs with many cuts, use 10–15%.
Does the calculator account for the mortar joint?
Yes — each brick size already includes a standard 10 mm mortar joint in its face area. The UK standard option uses (215 + 10) × (65 + 10) mm = 0.016875 m² per brick.
